Great Makeup Tips To Be Video Ready!

I was inspired with Kim Castleberry’s question the other day and I decided to write a quick post…

Here was Kimberly’s question…

All the basics taken care of this morning and finally sat down with my war paint… err I mean game face… errr I mean makeup on to do some video shooting! Some days I feel like the only chic that missed the makeup gene! I am still no good at it but camera makeup is surprisingly forgiving, what’s your secret tip for looking awesome in front of the camera?

Fresh Start, Fresh Ideas!

One thing that really makes a difference for me is to get ready before I even turn on my computer in the morning.  A quick shower and  just the basic daytime makeup. This  motivates me to prepare my content and I feel energized. If I wait too long to do my videos and I am on my computer for a few hours..Forget it, my eyes are red and I do not have the same energy…

First Tip ~ Always Moisturize and Prepare Your Skin Well

As for makeup tips, Use a good Day time moisturizer and apply a small amount of “primer”…The Paint primer…LOL This is a new product that contains little micro beads to reflect the light so the fine lines do not show…and it feel nice all day. There are different brands or primers at the dept. stores…try a few before purchasing…

Soft Eyes are  Key To a Younger Look

You should apply eyeliner to accentuate your eyes  on the top lid. Try greys, browns, or taupe colors eye pencils because black is not forgiving at all… If you want to add a little eyeliner on the lower lid, never go corner to corner!! Start from the outer corner of the eye and stop halfway…remember to blend because a hard line gives you a harder look…The trick is truly in blending and softening the line with a little sponge or with a brush.

Blend Blend Blend

Always “blend your eyeliner well with a small brush to have a Smokey eye effect…it looks great! You can apply a light color eyeshadow on the entire lid to give your eyes a clean look and then chose a medium shade to add from the outsides corner of your eyes going in. Again do not add the darker color past the middle of your eyelid. Blend well. A little mascara will finish up the look…

Sweet Cheeks ;)

Apply a natural color to your cheeks. Start applying the blush on the bone of your cheek (The rounder part) .  Use a natural blush and apply blush in a  downward motion so it fallows your natural facial hair …If you don’t you’ll end up with a “blotchy effect”… That’s not really flattering.

Tips for Fuller Lips

Now my favorite part is the lips… ;) I know many women who stop using lip liners because they feel it shows the little lines around the mouth. What creates the lines is not necessarily the liner but the oil in it…Look for a very “dry” lip liner and fallow the natural lines of your lips very lightly… “Try drawing  lines…NOT CURVES”. This will create a wonderful look and it makes your lips appear fuller without looking like you just had a lip injection. Apply a small amount of lipstick…Notice I mentioned a small amount…That’s the  the trick… and again blend with finger or a lip brush…

Another Important Tip for Fuller Lips

A final tip is to keep the body hydrated.  Keeping the lips hydrated is part of the trick to keeping them as full and flushed as possible.  This will help them to stand out, instead of blending in with the rest of your face.

I  studied at “The Académie Édith Serei”   in Montreal Canada and I worked in modeling agencies as a model and makeup artist… I love to feel at my best and I believe every women have their own sensational features. It fun to accentuate your features but remember, You are beautiful “Au natural” so love yourself!! Wemen  do not need to be models to use little tips that makes a big difference in how we feel… When we feel our best…we are more empowered and self-confident..and we naturally appear more confident in our videos as well… I know I do… Cheers…

I love the part about getting ready before you even turn the computer on. I think I’ll try that. I’m sure it will change the way I feel when I’m on the computer.

  4. Hi Nathalie,

I got permanent black eye liner (upper and lower) many years ago. I’m still happy I did it but wonder how best to soften it up now that I’m older. I’ve tried going over it with brown or taupe shadows but it doesn’t stay on.

Also, can you explain about lip liner when you said try drawing lines not curves?

    Thanks! Great tips.

      Hello Deb,

First, I would apply an Ivory-beige eyeshadow on the entire lid. Try using water on a brush so it covers more evenly. You want to make sure the shade is not too light because this will make your eyes a tired look. Try to match your skin tone and do not use anything shimmery…go for matte.

A great way to brighten and pick up the eyes is to apply a medium color eyeliner accent on the upper outer half of the top eyelid, and on the outer third of the lower eyelid rim.

The lower lid accent is a shade lighter than the upper lid accent. Try using colorful tones like lavender, or light earthy tones like golden brown. Also, try to buy eyeliner that are softer so it doesn’t pickup the beige eyeshadow.

I love the clinique eyeliner…I use the taupe amd often add a light blue over it to soften the look ;)

      Hope this helps…

  5. Great tips, Nathalie.

Getting ready first thing is a good idea.

I try but have so many allergies to makeup, so I have to get by with just a foundation and blush. :(

I don’t think I’ve broken any cameras, so far. LOL

LOL..your funny;) I can understand how allergies will have you stay away from makeup. I think that as long as you are able to even up your skin tone (Which is the easiest way to a more youthful look… you’re good to go! I have really fair eyelashes so for me…I need my eyes accentuated or else I look tired… But hey! The beach look will always be in my book…

  6. Great tips Nathalie! And great advice on showering and doing your videos first thing. I often have great intentions of doing video’s but I usually get sidetracked and then I’m way to tired looking to do a video. LOL

  8. hey Nathalie
Thanks for the tips. Lining the inside of your lower eylid with a white pencil is very good too for bringing out the white’s of your eyes, especially if you have light colored eyes. I can’t do w/o mascara or evebrow pencil because I am so blonde like you. I like your tip on getting ready for the day B4 you sit in front of the computer. The biggest tip, and its only because I am suffering from it right now, is get sleep!!! Sleep debt not only catches up w/ your immune system, but allows the ravages of “time” to show up on your face. Thanks Nathalie for sharing.
